How to Run a FiveM Soft Launch
A soft-launch plan for a new FiveM roleplay server: who to invite, what to test, how to take bug reports, and when you are actually ready to advertise.

Advertising a server that has never held 30 real people is how you spend your only launch on a crash. A soft launch is a weekend with people who will tell you the truth while the city is still allowed to break.
Who gets in
Invite 20 to 40 people, and make the list on purpose:
- Future staff, so they learn the tools before they need them
- A few experienced roleplayers who will push jobs, not just drive
- One or two people who like finding broken menus
- Nobody whose only job is to clip chaos for TikTok
Give them a role on Discord and a single channel for bugs. Praise the boring reports. "The garage ate my car" is more useful than a paragraph about the vibe.
What you are testing
Walk the first hour the way a new player will, using the onboarding path. Then push the systems that die under stress:
- Character creation through to a first paycheck
- Buying, storing, and retrieving a vehicle
- Drawing, reloading, and putting away a weapon from your pack
- A police scene with radios and an inventory search
- A disconnect in the middle of a job
- A restart, and whether cars, inventories, and apartments come back
If a restart loses items, you are not soft-launching. You are rehearsing a wipe. Fix backups before you fix the HUD. The ops guide is the short version.
How to take notes
One shared document. Each bug gets a resource name, what the player did, and whether it happened once or every time. "Scripts are broken" is not a bug. "ox_inventory throws this error when a second weapon pack item is used" is a bug.
Change one thing at a time. A Friday night where you update twelve resources is how you lose the plot on which change fixed the crash.
What you hold back
Do not post the server listing. Do not promise a public date you cannot move. Do not sell donor perks for features that are still in the document as red. Priority queue for people helping you test is enough.
Performance gets a pass too. Run resmon with the group online and write down anything idling hot. The performance guide is the filter. A soft launch that is smooth at 30 can still fall over at 120, so leave headroom.
When to open
Open when a new tester can play for two hours without a staff member sitting in their pocket, the database survives a restart, and you already know what you will patch in week two. That last part is the difference between a launch and a peak.
Tell the soft-launch players the public date first. They earned the head start, and they are the ones who will be online when strangers arrive.
