How to Staff a FiveM Roleplay Server
How to recruit, permission, and keep FiveM staff: roles that match the work, a conduct standard, logs you will actually read, and the hiring mistakes that start staff drama.

A server with no staff is a sandbox. A server with too many staff is a second city, and the product is the arguments. Hire for the work you have this month, and give each role a power that matches it.
Roles, not a ladder of noclip
Split the work:
- Moderators handle tickets, rule breaks in progress, and clip reviews. They can freeze a scene, kick when they have to, and write a report. They do not spawn money.
- Administrators handle bans, appeals, and economy repairs. They are few.
- Developers touch the cfg, the database, and resources. They are not automatically the people who ban players.
- Department leads run police, EMS, or DOJ in character. Their power is the job menu for that department, and it ends there.
If every staff role has the same permissions, you do not have roles. You have a list of people who can all break the city.
Hire before the crowd
The launch checklist says to recruit before you open. Three to five people who have played on a server like yours is enough for a soft launch. Add more only when tickets are waiting, not because a regular asked for a role in exchange for "being online a lot."
Ask for a scene they moderated or a rule they disagreed with and still followed. Availability on your actual peak nights matters more than a long application. A staff member who plays at 3 a.m. on Tuesdays is a friend, not coverage.
Conduct is the job
Write a one-page standard and keep it in the staff Discord:
- Punishments go through the log, with the clip or the console attached
- Staff do not rule on scenes they are in
- Donors, friends, and other staff get the same rule as everyone else
- In-game items staff spawn for testing come back out of the inventory
The fastest way to empty a whitelist is a ban that depends on who was online. Publish the rulebook players see, and keep the staff page stricter than that.
Logs or it did not happen
Bans, kicks, money changes, and job grants need a record. A player list will not do this for you. Your admin resource and a staff channel will. Read the log once a week. Patterns show up there earlier than they show up in a drama thread: one moderator handing a friend a business, one script granting the same item twice.
Remove access cleanly
When someone steps down, pull Discord roles, ace permissions, and in-game admin the same day. Old permissions are how a burned-out moderator still has the economy menu in month four. Thank them in public if the exit was clean. Do the removal either way.
Staffing is a system you can explain to a new hire in an evening. If it takes a lore wiki, it is already too big for the player count you have.
