What Is CFX Asset Escrow? FiveM's Anti-Leak System Explained
How Cfx.re Asset Escrow works, why it killed the leak scene, and what escrow protection means for your FiveM server — licensing, Keymaster, updates and transfers explained.
If you've bought a FiveM resource in the last few years, you've seen the phrase escrow-protected. Here's what it actually means, and why you should refuse to buy anything without it.
The problem it solved
The old FiveM marketplace ran on trust and ZIP files. You bought a script, got the raw source, and within a week that source was on a leak forum being run by five hundred servers that never paid. Creators burned out, updates stopped, and buyers got abandoned products.

The protected parts are encrypted and never exposed, so there's nothing to leak. Config files stay open so you can still customize everything the creator intended.
What this means for you as a buyer
- Automatic updates. Creators push a new version, you download it from the Portal — always the latest build, free.
- No license keys to paste. Ownership is account-level; run your asset on any server tied to your key.
- No stolen goods. If a "store" sells you a pack outside escrow at a suspicious discount, you're buying a leak that can get your community banned.
- Real accountability. Escrow creators are verified through Tebex — there's a business behind the product.
Common escrow questions
Can I edit escrowed resources? You can edit everything the creator ships unlocked (configs, and in our case things like attachments data). Core protected code stays sealed — that's the point.
What if I see an entitlement error? Your server key belongs to a different Cfx.re account than the purchase. Make sure both are on the same account — full walkthrough in our install guide.
Does escrow hurt performance? No. Decryption happens at resource start, not during gameplay. If a store blames escrow for lag, the problem is their code.
